We need a discussion....

WSR is a great Camp already. However I only spend 1 week and a couple of weekends a year there,  Most of you spend a good portion of the summer. Whats on your list of Camp improvements that would enhance the scouting experience for everyone.

Sorry I don't think we can do   Air conditioned  tents for staff city.

great idea for a discussion!

FOWSR would like to designate one major project a year as our "Project of Interest" to focus on. What are some ideas?
Winnebago needs a "science building" to offer the many science merit badges.
This would enhance the quality of the merit badge experiences and provide
an outlet for science-math-computer interested scouts.
I have always been an "Outdoors" type of person, backpacking and 'Wilderness' camping as much as possible. I have always had a positive feeling about 'Frontier' camp, and the under utilization of it. I think we should look at the possibilities of Promoting/Using Frontier camp more, and that requires a long and hard look at what needs to be upgraded or removed from the sites.

When I was living in Colorado, DAC started their Mtn camp as a 'Wilderness' camp. The only thing found after a weekend use, was the 'Footprints' left behind by the scouts. But this is only my opinion.
The Frontier sites at Winnebago do not need development. Theres nothing there (across the lake) but a firepit, which is the way its supposed to be. When I was a provisional scoutmaster in the early 1960's, I took my troop on an overnighter to the top of Goat Hill each week. There are plenty of places for a wilderness experience at Winnebago. The Science Center concept could be a real attraction and possibly draw in paying scouts from other councils. It could also be rented out during the week to school science groups.`
Science center would be great but that seems like a huge undertaking considering we only have a few hundred dollars to spend right now!
I misunderstood.......if I had $200 I'd use it to develop good maps for day- hiking from Winnebago , or help out the handicraft area or ecology area.
What I said was, that we should Promote and Use Frontier, not Develope. Plus. The last time I walked over there, There was the old commisary building still standing. But..... on another note.

Mapping the hiking trails in and around Winnabago is an excellant idea. With todays GPS Technology, it would be a simple matter to map and mark all important areas. At present, I am doing the exact same thing for our 'Bike" club in southern NJ, in and around Warton State Forrest.

I agree, have a detailed map & survey of WSR would be awesome.  Perhaps there's something Google maps could offer to assist us in that project......?
